Fungal nl infection onychomycosis is a condition that many people will experience at some point in their life. Although not typically serious, this lment can be highly bothersome and challenging to treat effectively.

The fungal infection develops gradually and manifests itself through the discoloration, thickening, and distortion of the nls. The toenls are more commonly affected than fingernls.

  1. Symptoms: A fungal nl infection may initially not exhibit noticeable symptoms but progresses to cause:

    • Discoloration: Your nl might appear white, black, yellow or green.

    • Thickening and Distortion: The nl might develop into an unusual shape or texture making it hard to trim.

    • Pn or discomfort: This is particularly prevalent when using or exerting pressure on the affected toe or finger.

    • Brittle nls: Pieces may break off or come away completely.

  2. Causes: Fungal nl infections typically arise due to fungi that cause athlete's foot infecting your nls. These fungi usually reside harmlessly on skin but multiply and cause infections when conditions are conducive, such as warmth, darkness, and moisture - like the feet.
